Design That Makes A Splash

Don’t you love the season of pool parties, sunset cocktails, and backyard barbecues? With friends and family finally able to get together, this summer is the perfect time to host a memorable poolside event and make the most of the long, sunny days.

Don’t let your outdoor design bellyflop this summer! I’m here to help you create a design that is sure to make a splash.

Here are my 4 favorite ways to design an outdoor pool:

Tile

Dive into the materials that surround and line your pool. You can use everything from porcelain to stone, ceramic, and even glass to design your pool aesthetic! Bring your pool area to life by choosing materials that give your pool the effect you crave.

Want to create a zen, spa-like swimming experience? Use mosaic tiles in subdued colors to give your pool a smooth, clean surface that elicits an expensive feel.

Do you prefer to feel like you’re swimming through a natural lagoon? Deep blues, greens, and aquas will make your pool feel like a cenote in Tulum!

Entry

The entry to your pool makes the first impression - so make it count!

A beach entry pool is perfect for those who want to take a slow stroll into their pool. Simple steps are a great option if you want to maximize your swimming space. A baja shelf gives the best of both worlds, and is the best solution for in-pool loungers (my favorite!).

Poolside Decor

Once your materials are selected and your pool is built, there is still so much fun to be had with poolside decor! You could select a fountain or other water feature that inspires a tranquil vibe, or go for modern pool loungers that give a luxury feel.

Bright beach towels and colorful outdoor pillows will bring comfort and style to your outdoor space!

Sculptures or other architectural elements could lend an element of surprise and make your poolside atmosphere unique. The opportunities are endless, so have fun with it. People will be sure to notice when they come over to take a dip.

Don’t forget about lighting when designing your poolside decor! Lighting plays a huge role in the ambiance of your outdoor space. Tiki torches, string bulbs, colorful LEDs - there are so many options to choose from. My advice is to select lighting options that will help you transition smoothly from day to night so the party doesn’t end when the sun goes down!

In-Pool Decor

Even if your next summer party isn’t a pool party, your pool can play a role in your outdoor design. Look for unique items to adorn your pool when you’re not using it. That way, it isn’t just a wasted expanse of water, it’s like a piece of art for your backyard.

Colorful floats are a fun, inexpensive way to make your pool stand out. Illuminating floating orbs have an other-worldly appeal. A colorful light projector can turn your pool into a disco dream. No matter what vibe you’re going for, in-pool decor is the perfect way to bring attention to your outdoor oasis.
